Senior Project Manager – Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP)
Omaha, NE (Relocation Assistance Provided)
Omaha, NE (Relocation Assistance Provided)
Are you a seasoned municipal wastewater construction leader who thrives on delivering complex treatment plant projects that communities depend on every day?
Our client is a respected heavy civil contractor with a strong national footprint in municipal wastewater infrastructure. They are seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead high-profile WWTP projects up to $50M in annual revenue. This is a high-impact role with real autonomy, strong executive visibility, and long-term career runway.
If you have experience managing public-sector wastewater treatment plant construction—from headworks and clarifiers to process piping, structures, and commissioning—this is an opportunity to take ownership of marquee projects in a growing Midwest market.
What You’ll Do
As the Senior Project Manager – WWTP, you will serve as the primary driver of project success, overseeing all phases of municipal wastewater treatment plant construction, from preconstruction through closeout.
You will:
- Lead project planning, startup, execution, and closeout for large-scale municipal WWTP projects
- Partner closely with Preconstruction and Estimating to develop, refine, and manage project budgets, schedules, and cost reports
- Direct subcontractor procurement, including scope development, bid reviews, negotiations, and contract execution
- Manage and mentor project teams, including hiring key field staff and specialty subcontractors
- Own project financial performance, including forecasting, cost control, change management, and P&L responsibility
- Serve as the primary point of contact with municipal clients, engineers, and inspectors, ensuring expectations are exceeded
- Drive schedule adherence, milestone achievement, and proactive risk mitigation
- Oversee change order strategy—identifying change events, pricing work, negotiating approvals, and protecting margin
- Ensure strict compliance with safety (HSE), quality, and regulatory requirements common to municipal wastewater projects
- Support pre-award efforts by contributing to scope reviews, constructability input, and estimating when needed
- Provide clear, executive-level project reporting on progress, risks, and recommended actions
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of project management experience, with a strong preference for municipal wastewater treatment plant construction
- Demonstrated experience managing complex WWTP scopes such as:
- Process structures and basins
- Mechanical and process piping
- Concrete structures
- Pump stations, headworks, and treatment systems
- Strong command of project controls, estimating, scheduling, cost forecasting, and contract management
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and interface effectively with public-sector owners
- Proficiency with construction scheduling and project management software
- Results-driven mindset with the confidence to make decisions and lead from the front
Why This Role Stands Out
- Major municipal WWTP projects with long durations and meaningful community impact
- Relocation assistance provided to Omaha, NE
- Strong backlog and stability in the municipal water/wastewater market
- Opportunity to grow within a well-established contractor with national reach
- Competitive compensation, benefits, and long-term career advancement
